Ying Chu, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2017, in
Hong Kong.
Ying Chu was born in Stanley, Hong Kong in 1930. She later met the love of her
life, Kam Wah Cheng through her mother who worked with him. Ying and Kam
Wah married shortly afterwards in 1949. The couple settled down at Cape
D'Aguilar, Hong Kong Island and remained there until retirement, working
together at Cable & Wireless Communications and raising their five children.
They later moved to America in 1999 to join their children, but frequently travelled
back to Hong Kong to visit other family members and friends.
Ying was a wonderful wife and mother. While living in Cape D'Aguilar, she
tended to her garden and raised enough livestock to feed her family. She also
harvested fresh sea urchin and clams in the nearby water to make into many
delicious dishes that everyone still remembers fondly. In addition to raising their
five children, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, knitting, playing mahjong and
watching Chinese opera in her spare time. She also enjoyed daily morning dim
sum with her husband, followed by walks along the water in Hong Kong. She
was the pillar of her large family and a loving companion to her husband. Ying
Chu lived a full life.
Ying is survived by her husband, Kam Wah; her daughter Yuk Hay and her
husband Kam Hung; her daughter Ella; her son Ricky and his wife Ling Yee; her
son Ringo and his wife Janet; her son Casey and his wife Ngan Chu; 11
grandchildren: Stella and her husband Howard; Anderson and his wife Clara; Eric
and his wife Michelle; Bert and his wife Khushali; Michelle and her husband
Jerry; Ronald; Cassandra; Stephanie and her husband Daniel; Ryan; Kevin; and
Aaron; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 siblings: her brother
Chi Wai and his wife; her sister Lin Tai; and her sister Wai Ching; and 16
nephews and nieces.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 5 to 9 pm Friday, January 12,
2018, at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home (6900 Lawndale Street, Houston,
TX 77023). Funeral services will also be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral
Home at 10 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018, with interment to follow.
