Vernon Andrew Mayfield, 93, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on September 5, 2016. He was born on December 14, 1922 in Gary, TX to Earl & Madie Mayfield. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa & Italy. After the war, he met & married his sweetheart of 50 years, Helen Hutchinson Mayfield. Vernon worked for the Houston Fire Dept. & Powell Electric. He dearly loved his family & centered his world around them. He rode on the Salt Grass Trail Ride for fifty years. Vernon...

Vernon Andrew Mayfield, 93, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on September 5, 2016. He was born on December 14, 1922 in Gary, TX to Earl & Madie Mayfield. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa & Italy. After the war, he met & married his sweetheart of 50 years, Helen Hutchinson Mayfield. Vernon worked for the Houston Fire Dept. & Powell Electric. He dearly loved his family & centered his world around them. He rode on the Salt Grass Trail Ride for fifty years. Vernon is survived by his daughter Donna Skelton & husband Sam, granddaughter Jill McLain & husband David, granddaughter Katie Skelton, great-grandsons Marshall & Nolan McLain, and his second wife Virginia Mayfield. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen Mayfield, his siblings Millard & Mike Mayfield & Tommie Robbins, and his granddaughter Susan Skelton. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 from 6 - 8 pm. Services will be on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 2 pm. Both at Forest Park Lawndale. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
